San Sebastián Festival, Alejandro Amenábar and his “fortune” arrive in San Sebastián. The director Alejandro Amenábar and the cast of his new and first television series, ‘La Fortuna’, arrived yesterday at the San Sebastián Festival to present it in the Official Selection, out of competition
The eve of the closing has arrived. The San Sebastian Festival is coming to an end. In the absence of knowing the complete track record and all the decisions of the various juries of the contest, different projects continue to arrive out of competition, in order to enrich the festival.
Yesterday was the big day of ‘La Fortuna’ . The new and first television series by Alejandro Amenábar. For its formal presentation, its director Alejandro Amenábar; the actors Karra Elejalde, Ana Polvorosa, Álvaro Mel, T’Nia Miller and Stanley Tucci. The series, which aired in its entirety yesterday, that is, all six episodes. And as we have already mentioned, the new Amenábar series is part of the Official Section, but this time, it is out of competition.
‘La abuela’ and ‘The French Dispatch’: two major disappointments
Yesterday, Friday 24, I was able to see at the San Sebastian Festival, I was able to see two very popular and commented films during this edition. In the first place, ‘La abuela’ by Paco Plaza. The director of ‘Veronica’ and ‘Rec’ included in the Official Selection his new horror film, ‘La abuela’. She tells us the story of Susana, a young woman who has to leave her life in Paris when she is told that her grandmother has suffered a stroke. However, Susana must resume her life and must find someone to take care of her grandmother. And of course, she’s not going to make it easy for him. We are facing a movie with an argument that pointed out ways. The story was engaging and the characters were eye-catching. Nevertheless, the staging and the horror resources used are scarce, recurrent and already highly regarded. There is nothing new and although the story makes some sense, it dismantles itself when the result is contemplated. There were more expectations in this movie.
On the other hand, in the Perlak section, yesterday I could see ‘The French Dispatch’, the new Wes Anderson movie. The film turns out to be a compilation of stories based on articles from The French Dispatch magazine. As the synopsis says: “the film is a love letter to journalists.” With a luxury cast: Benicio Del Toro, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray or Tilda Swinton , the film does not get a good result , despite this display of stars. The result is heavy, tedious and quite difficult to digest. Nonetheless, there are passages of the film that are endearing, emotional, and even funny. Despite this, it is far from the expectations that I, personally, had.
‘Cardo’, the new series produced by Los Javis was presented yesterday at the Zinemaldia
Also yesterday, the official presentation, by Atresmedia, of the series ‘Cardo’, the new bet of Los Javis (Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi) as producers took place , directed and starring Ana Rujas along with Claudia Costafreda. Yesterday, we could only see three of the six chapters that, at the moment, make up the series. However, with only those three episodes, it could already be foreseen that ‘Cardo’ is going to revolutionize the world of television. The new generations have been stomping, they bet on the truth and the reality that should be shown in the series and I am completely sure that the new series ‘Cardo’ is going to mean all that. One of the best things I could see on Friday 24 at the San Sebastian Festival.
